Daily Devotional: Psalms 143:7-12

Ps 143:7-12

Answer me quickly, O Lord; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit. Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Rescue me from my enemies, O Lord, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. For your name's sake, O Lord, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble. In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.

1 Peter 1:6-7

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith — of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire — may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

My wife says that it is dangerous but sometimes I just sit and think about things that might be, might have been, or why things are like they are, or why they are not like they are. (Now you see why she thinks it is dangerous.)

How many times has God intervened in my life today or changed things in your life or kept some terrible thing from happening to our child or grandchild? Since we put our trust in him to do what is best for us, just might be the reason our loved one has gone to be with him in eternity. That doesn’t make sense, but we don’t know his mind, so we don’t know what is really best for us or for others.

When we learn to really trust him, we can turn loose of all of our worries. We get rid of our anxiety because we know that we are not in control, but he is, and he can handle it – whatever it is. I had an eighty plus year old man tell me this week that he no longer worried about our political situation. He just prays about it, and he said he knew God would take care of it for us. This is trust in God.

Paul could say that he was what he was by the grace of God. Not a king, not even a governor, not a chief ruler, or even on the Sanhedrin. He was a servant of Jesus Christ, often mistreated, beaten, and even put in prison – by the grace of God.

O Lord God, help me turn loose of my way of earthly thinking and realize that you know what is best, even when it seems to be the worst possible thing that could happen in my life. You allow me to face things that make no sense to me but give me faith to trust you without explanation and when I don’t understand why. Use me to help others navigate their way through life by showing them my trust in you in all things. Be with your people who face persecution because of their faith in Jesus and their will to live for him. In his holy name I pray.
