Daily Devotional: Proverbs 3:13-20

Prov 3:13-20

Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew.

1 Cor 1:25

For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Wisdom is the ability to live ones life correctly by making the right choices. We are told to pray for wisdom and God will give it to us. But the Bible does not explain how God does this. It is my conclusion from my studies that the Spirit is involved in giving us wisdom from God. But since God allows us to learn patience from our trials and hardships, it is possible that he teaches us wisdom by allowing us to make poor choices. This is a hard way to learn. An easier way is when we learn from the mistakes of others and not ever make those bad choices ourselves.

James explains the difference between the wisdom of this world and the wisdom from above or from God. Worldly wisdom is actually from Satan and will lead us into all kinds of problems, trouble and eventually will kill us. The wisdom from God will give us the ability to be at peace in times of turmoil, will teach us to love the unlovable, will guide us into moral purity in an immoral society, and will show us how to get along with others, even when we disagree with them.

God designed us using his wisdom. In his wisdom, he designed the world in which we live. In that same vast wisdom, he knows what is best for us and tells us how to live. This is not so he can manipulate us or just give us a bunch of rules. He wants us to have a good life and he tells us how to achieve it in his word.

O Lord God, give me wisdom. Give me strength and self-control to be able to follow it in my life. Protect my family from harm. Be with those who are sick, taking treatments, waiting on results, and those who are hurting. Give them your peace. Increase my faith. I pray in the name of Jesus.
