Daily Devotional: Proverbs 30:1-6
Prov 30:1-6
1 The words of Agur son of Jakeh. The oracle. The man declares, I am weary, O God; I am weary, O God, and worn out. 2 Surely, I am too stupid to be a man. I have not the understanding of a man. 3 I have not learned wisdom, nor have I knowledge of the Holy One. 4 Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name? Surely you know! 5 Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. 6 Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.
1 Cor 2:14-16
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Do you know God? Do you even know Jesus? We often talk about knowing Jesus and how in him we know the Father. In fact, Jesus said if you know me, you know him also. When we are in a relationship with Jesus, we are in a relationship with God the Father. So, for all believers, there is a sense in which we can say that we do know both the Father and the Son. This is a wonderful thing to have in life!
But do we really know God, know his mind, how he thinks, how he reasons? NO! We do not really know him, we cannot, and we never will in this life. He is so far above us and his ways are so far above our ways that we are not even close to being in the same league with God. This means that we have no basis to ever question his wisdom or his goodness or anything else about him. He is God and is infinite in every aspect of his being. He speaks and it comes to pass.
But what we need to know in this life to become prepared to live with him in eternity, he has revealed to us in his word, the Bible. Peter says that we have been given all things pertaining to life and to godliness. Paul says we have been given all we need to be completely furnished unto every good work.
O Lord God, give me wisdom to know your word and thus to know you. Yet, give me wisdom to never think that I truly know you or understand you in this life. Increase my faith so that I accept your word without doubting or questioning you or your wisdom. Use me to serve you as I worship you but also as I serve those who are all around me. Keep me from being proud, but instead, fill me with gratitude and thanksgiving. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
