Daily Devotional: Proverbs 30:24-28
Prov 30:24-28
24 Four things on earth are small, but they are exceedingly wise: 25 the ants are a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer; 26 the rock badgers are a people not mighty, yet they make their homes in the cliffs; 27 the locusts have no king, yet all of them march in rank; 28 the lizard you can take in your hands, yet it is in kings’ palaces.
Rom 1:18-20
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So, they are without excuse.
Do you ever stop your hurried life long enough to watch ants or the birds or the stars, or anything else around you? There is a place we sometimes stay when on vacation that has bird feeders in some trees, near a balcony, overlooking a creek. The feeders have guards to prevent the squirrels from getting the food. But the squirrels outsmart the designers of the guards on a regular basis. It is interesting to sit and watch the birds, the squirrels, the creek and see God’s handiwork.
My wife and I were returning from a trip recently after dark and saw a single star in the sky. We both noticed it and for the next three hours we watched it as we traveled. On one occasion my wife said that the star had disappeared, but it was still there. We were just travelling in a different direction, and it was to the side instead of the front. God’s eternal power, his divine nature, his invisible attributes are clearly seen all around us, if we will just stop and see them.
When we study the order of God’s creation it is beyond amazing. Watch the ants as they work together to find food and to store it for later. The consistent formation of the geese as they migrate to the same place each year and then return to the exact place they left earlier. My mom once had a pond in Ohio with the same pair of geese each summer for over 10 years. God is all around us!
O Lord God, thank you for your great wisdom in creation, for your infinite power shown in all you have created, and for revealing it to us so vividly. As I observe the animals, I see your care and love for them as you provide for each one in a different way. I know that if you love and care about the tiny ant, you love me so much more! I love you Lord and I want to always do your will in every part of my life, but I know that I fail too often. Forgive me when I do. Give me a servant heart so that I will see opportunities to help others and do it. In Jesus name.
