Daily Devotional: Psalms 9:1-4
Ps 9:1-4
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before your presence. For you have maintained my just cause; you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.
Eph 1:3-6
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.
What a wonderful thing it is to be able to serve a God who loves us and watches over us every day. We serve a God who has revealed his will for us and that guides us so that we are able to have a wonderful life on earth, along with a promise of eternal life with him in paradise. We have a Savior who loves us so much that he was willing to give up his place in heaven, come to earth as one of us, and then to die for our sins so that we can be counted righteous forever.
It is no wonder that Paul said for us to “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice!” We have every reason to rejoice in the Lord. Even though we face trials, we face problems, we face sickness, we even face death, but in it all we can still rejoice in the Lord. This is a joy based on gratitude for Jesus and what he has done for us. It is a joy based on faith that we will be with him in eternity. It is joy based on our hope, genuine expectation, not just wishful thinking. Rejoice in the Lord!
We have every reason to be grateful, and yet we seem to find things about which to complain. The weather is too hot or too cold, but God controls it, not us. We, or someone we love, gets sick or dies, but that too is beyond our control and often beyond our understanding. So, we trust God and rejoice in trials. We may not like or understand the world or the politics, but we can trust God and rejoice.
O Lord God, thank you for all you have put into my life and for all you do for me every day. I know that I take so much for granted and for of this I am sorry. I live in a land of plenty and my overall health is good, and I am surrounded by people that love me, for this I thank you. Help me not only say “thank you” but use all you give me to your glory by helping and serving others. Give healing and peace to those who are battling cancer and other diseases. I pray in the name of Jesus.
