Daily Devotional: Psalms 16:1-6
Ps 16:1-6
1 Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge. 2 I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing." 3 As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight. 4 The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods. I will not pour out their libations of blood or take up their names on my lips. 5 LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. 6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
Rom 15:13
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Billy Sunday made famous the idea of making Jesus our personal Savior but it was King David many years earlier who declared that God was his personal Lord, and refuge. He put his trust in God and never let it go. From his youth he trusted God to deliver him from the bear and the lion and later from Goliath, the Philistine giant. He depended on God to protect him and deliver him from King Saul as he was pursued for several years. He slept every night with an assurance that God would take care of him and protect him at all times.
In this trust he realized that God had made him King and had assigned him his portion in life. In our trust we can know that we are what we are and in the place we are in because God has put us here. Queen Esther was raised up for just the time in which she lived. Moses was born at the right time and made ready when God was ready to use him. We need to let God get us ready and then be willing to be used when his time comes in our lives.
What a wonderful God we serve. He has blessed us in so many ways. Above all, what a blessing to be his child and to be able to know his Son. What a thrill to see him working in our lives to prepare us for his service and then see his plan taking place as we are used by him. We praise him for the opportunity to know and love other Christians and have them in our lives to help us live for him. We thank him for this country in which we live and the many freedoms we enjoy.
O Lord God, how wonderful is your Name in all the earth! What a privilege to be able to know you as my God and to know Jesus as by Savior, my Lord and as my brother. Thank you for hearing my prayer. Give me greater faith to trust you in all things. Give me a grateful heart so I will be thankful for everything in my life and will praise you for using me. Use me today to lead others to you or to live closer to you. Forgive me when I fail to be what you want me to be. Help me set the right example for those who are around me. I pray in the name of Jesus.
