Daily Devotional: Psalms 68:15-19
Ps 68:15-19
15 The mountains of Bashan are majestic mountains; rugged are the mountains of Bashan. 16 Why gaze in envy, O rugged mountains, at the mountain where God chooses to reign, where the LORD himself will dwell forever? 17 The chariots of God are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands; the Lord has come from Sinai into his sanctuary. 18 When you ascended on high, you led captives in your train; you received gifts from men, even from the rebellious--that you, O LORD God, might dwell there. 19 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Matt 6:25-27
25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
In this context Jesus chastises his disciples when they worry because it shows a lack of faith. The reasoning of Jesus is indisputable. If God is truly God then he is all powerful and therefore can accomplish anything that he wills to do. If God feeds the birds, providing and showing his care for them, he will provide for us because as his people, he cares for us and we are much more valuable than some random bird in the wild. So if we trust him as our God, why should any of us worry about anything that happens or does not happen in our lives?
When we move beyond the things of this world and realize that God loves us so much that he sent his Son to die in our place and for our sin, how can we doubt he will take care of our needs. Paul says that since God gave up his Son for us, he has so much invested in us that it would not make sense if he did not continue to provide for us in every way and do what is best for us.
God is real. God loves us. God has promised to take care of us, provide our needs, help us in our troubles, strengthen us when we are weak and lift us when we fall. So when we trust him, we have no reason to worry. He daily bears our burdens.
Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your love and your care shown to me in more ways than I can possibly know or understand. I thank you for the many people you have put in my life that are such an encouragement to me. I know you have blessed me far beyond my needs and give me so many luxuries to enjoy. Help me never be greedy or selfish but to be willing to help others too. Use me to lift the burdens of those who are struggling and are weak. Give me wisdom to see what you want me to be and do. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
