Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:1-7
Ps 105:1-7
1 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 2 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. 4 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. 5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, 6 O descendants of Abraham his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones. 7 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
Eph 1:3-4
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.
When we look at what God has done for us, there is nothing more important than his plan provided for our salvation. We see his mighty works performed and his promises kept in the Old Testament. We see his people as they are brought out of Egyptian slavery and led to the new home in Canaan that he had sworn they would inherit. We watch as they became a blessed and great nation but failed to be faithful to him. Because of their sin they were often punished and eventually were taken into captivity and many of them dispersed among the heathen nations of the world. But God never forgot them or his promises to them.
He had told them they would have a great king who would rule over them and would unite them with people from all the nations of the earth. This new kingdom would be glorious and last forever. When he sent his Son into the world as the promised Messiah, they rejected him because of their misunderstanding.
They were looking for an earthly king who would defeat the nations that opposed them by military might. But this was not to be. It was the plan of God that his kingdom would be a spiritual kingdom and be led by a spiritual king. That kingdom was established on the day of Pentecost after the resurrection of Jesus. He is that promised king and his kingdom is open to all who will come to him in humble submission. He is our Savior, our King of kings and our Lord of Lords.
Heavenly Father, praise be to you and our Lord Jesus Christ. I am filled with your joy and your peace as I live for you in a world filled with turmoil. I thank you for your wonderful plan to make me righteous by the blood of Jesus. I am humbled by your acceptance of me as your child and as a citizen in your kingdom. Help me open my heart to your Spirit and to his bidding in my life to be molded into the likeness of your Son. Give me a better understanding of your word and how to apply it daily. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
