Daily Devotional: Psalms 16:1-6
Ps 16:1-6
1 Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge. 2 I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing." 3 As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight. 4 The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods. I will not pour out their libations of blood or take up their names on my lips. 5 LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. 6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
Phil 4:8-9
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Do we keep our minds focused on things that are good, right and wholesome? We are told to seek the things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. We are to keep our eyes on Jesus who is the basis of our faith and is the reason for our hope. He has entered the true tabernacle of God and is making ready an eternal home for each of us if we serve him. Surely a delightful inheritance is waiting for all who belong to him. In Jesus our lot is secured.
One of the problems we all face is not getting caught up in this world and the things of the world. We must work for a living. We must buy groceries, go to the doctor, clean the house, fix the car and then take the kids to school and all of their activities as well. Our lives become so filled with all of these and a host of other things like them until we lose our focus on God and our heavenly home.
Living for Jesus is a matter of setting our priorities and then keeping them in the proper order on a day to day basis. We must never be too busy to study his word or spend time in prayer. Pure and true religion is helping those in need as we keep our lives pure and free from sin. It is seen in our actions but begins in our minds.
O Lord, my Lord and my God, I come to you this morning in humility but also with assurance that you will hear me and answer my prayer. Keep me from being self-centered, greedy or selfish. Help me consider others better than myself so I will use what you give me to help those in need and to bring glory to you. Give me strength to get out of my comfort zone to talk to others about you and give me wisdom to know what to say at just the right time. Please give your peace to those who are suffering from cancer and from other diseases and their families that they will put their trust in you. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
