Daily Devotional: Psalms 41:1-6
Ps 41:1-6
1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble. 2 The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes. 3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness. 4 I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you." 5 My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?" 6 Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it abroad.
Phil 1:20-24
20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.
When we are walking in God’s light, seeking to do his will and putting him first in every aspect of our lives, we still fail at times to live up to his glory. We all sin and we admit it. Without any selfish pride or vain glory on our part, we can still admit that we are his, our sins are forgiven, and we are saved. As long as we are honest with ourselves, we can (and should) acknowledge that we are serving him with a pure conscience and a clean heart. We are living to bring glory to God.
While seeking to do his will, we find that we fail in many ways. But we look to his mercy, knowing that by his grace we are made righteous in Jesus Christ. To live is Christ because his name is glorified, and the Father is honored by our lives. We have no basis for pride or self-righteousness because we are what we are by the grace of God and not our own merit. Jesus said we are to let our lights shine so others will see our good works and glorify the Father in heaven, so we should not be ashamed to admit we are seeking to do this. Glory to his name!
O Lord our God, how wonderful and awesome is your holy name in all the heaven and earth. You are creator, sustainer and giver of all good and perfect gifts. By your grace I have air to breath, rain and sunshine to replenish the earth. Your blessings are seen in more ways than I can acknowledge. Thank you for this wonderful country in which I live. I know we are not what you want us to be as a nation in so many ways, so I ask you to guide our leaders with your wisdom. I ask your restraint and wisdom on the news media. I pray in the name of Jesus.
