Daily Devotional: Psalms 90:13-17
Ps. 90:13-17
13 Relent, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants. 14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble. 16 May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. 17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us--yes, establish the work of our hands.
2 Tim. 4:16-18
16 At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. 17 But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion's mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
There are times in life that we feel we are all alone. While we may have family and friends all around us, not to mention all the strangers, we feel deep down that we are alone because no one really seems to understand what is happening inside our hearts and lives. Add to that the times we are actually left alone to solve our problems and it is easy to get down and out and want to give up.
Paul realized that when everyone left him, he was not alone. The Lord stood by him and gave him strength to carry on. When Jesus was all alone and praying in the garden, an angel came and strengthened him. No matter who may desert us, we are not alone as long as we trust the Lord and live for him. Jesus promised that he will not leave us or forsake us. We are told the Spirit is within our hearts to comfort and strengthen us. We must not give up the Lord.
Paul said that there is no limit to what God is willing to do for us and the proof of this is that he has already given his only Son to die for our sin. Even in our sin and failures, he cares enough that he provided a way for us to have eternal life.
Heavenly Father, thank you for not giving up on me when I want to quit. Thank you for giving me peace in my heart when all around me is turmoil and strife. Use me to comfort those in distress, to strengthen the weak and lift up those who have fallen. Keep me from being proud of my own accomplishment and from being selfish with what you have given me. Give me a heart to use what I have to help others and in so doing to lay up treasures in heaven instead of hoarding them here on earth. Give your healing to the sick, to those taking treatments and others getting over surgeries or accidents. I pray in the name of Jesus.
