Daily Devotional: Psalms 98:1-9
Ps. 98:1-9
1 Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. 2 The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. 3 He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. 4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; 5 make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, 6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn--shout for joy before the LORD, the King. 7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. 8 Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; 9 let them sing before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity.
Rom. 1:16-17
16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
Imagine yourself lost in the wilderness, in complete darkness with no sense of direction or hope to be found. Place yourself in the middle of the ocean, drifting all alone on a small raft with no hope of being rescued. Death is inevitable; the only question is how soon and how much anguish and pain will be endured.
All of mankind has sinned. This sin has left us in spiritual darkness, separated from God, with no hope and no purpose in life. We know instinctively that there is life after this one, but we don’t know how to get there on our own. We are facing a final spiritual death but don’t know how soon or how terrible it will be.
But God is light! Jesus is life! So because of his great love and rich mercy for us we can be made alive, to live forever in Christ Jesus by grace. We were dead but we can be raised up to be seated with Jesus as our Savior. The gospel is the only way we can have the salvation that God offers to every person in the world.
Father, God and creator of all things, I come to you with thanksgiving for your way of salvation that has been made possible for me. Thank you for your love, mercy and grace that has been afforded to me. As I seek to live for you, help me allow your Spirit to work in me. Give me greater faith each day as I more clearly see the reality and beauty of heaven and the glory of living with you in eternity. Use me to share this gospel with those who are still lost and to be able to teach and encourage those who are yours. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
