Daily Devotional: Psalms 147:15-20
Ps 147:15-20
15 He sends his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. 16 He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes. 17 He hurls down his hail like pebbles. Who can withstand his icy blast? 18 He sends his word and melts them; he stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow. 19 He has revealed his word to Jacob, his laws and decrees to Israel. 20 He has done this for no other nation; they do not know his laws. Praise the LORD.
Gal 3:26-29
26 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
The writer of the book of Hebrews tells us that as the people of God, we have much better promises today than did Israel of old. Our better promises are based on a better covenant which is based on a better sacrifice. Along with this new covenant we have a new and better High Priest, Jesus Christ. All of these things make up the fulfilment of the prophecies concerning the Messiah.
While many today make the same mistake that the Jews made during the time of Jesus, the promised kingdom is here today. It is not an earthly kingdom but is the spiritual kingdom and Jesus is our King. But the issue we must face is do we follow him and his laws for us? The purpose of a king is to rule and we must obey.
Obedience and submission have become dirty words to many. We don’t want to be told what to do. We don’t like to think there is a law that we must obey. We want to do things our own way and follow our own will. This is the same problem that Israel faced from the very beginning of their nation and God punished them until eventually he disinherited them as his special people.
We have all spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus. We have been forgiven of our sin and we have the promise of eternal life. We have a God who does not allow us to be tempted beyond our ability to withstand and gives us strength to overcome.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your love, your tender mercy and your grace that allows me to be your child and a part of your special people today. Help me remember the responsibilities this puts on me to obey you in all things but also the many blessings that flood my life. Take away all of my doubts, my fears, my anxieties as I trust you. Remove any bitterness and hatred from my heart and fill me with your love, compassion and forgiveness. Help me be joyful, patient and kind to all and never think too highly of myself. I pray in the name of Jesus.
