Daily Devotional: Psalms 37:1-7
Ps 37:1-7
1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; 2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. 4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. 7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
2 Cor 5:9-10
9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
Our individual goal in life is to please God. That means that what others are doing, be it good or bad, really should not be our concern. (I understand that we have a responsibility to teach the lost, encourage the weak, help those in need and many other things we do for others, but we can only answer to God for our self.) There will always be those who are wicked and seem to prosper. There will be righteous people who suffer. There will be some who seem to have an easier life and many who have a difficult time but we each must make it our goal to please him.
We can find joy in serving God and living for him. By devoting our lives to him we find that much of the drama that others face will never come our way. Many problems come as the result of sin, so these we will never intrude our lives when we follow his way and seek to do right. True peace and joy are found in Christ.
This does not mean we will never have troubles but it does mean that God will be with us and give his Spirit to protect and lead us. It does mean that Jesus will be at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. We live with the assurance that we will never be tempted beyond what we are able to bear when we depend on the strength of the Spirit living in us. If God is for us, who can be against us?
Heavenly Father it is so good to be your child and to know the constant care and protection you give to me. It is such a joy to know that the worst I face in this life is nothing to compare with the glory that is waiting for me in eternity. Help me keep my eyes on Jesus and not be distracted by those around me who are wicked but seem to prosper anyway. Keep me from being judgmental but rather, give me compassion and a willingness to help others find you. I ask a special prayer that you give wisdom to the leaders of our country. I pray in the name of Jesus.
