Ps 46:7-11
7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah 8 Come and see the works of the LORD, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire. 10 "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." 11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. 1 Peter 2:4-5
4 As you come to him, the living Stone-rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him- 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Jesus is Lord. He is King of kings and Lord of Lords. All authority has been given to him, both in heaven and on earth. He created all things and all things exist by him, through him and for him. By his resurrection he overcame death and destroyed the power of sin. Every knee will bow before him and every tongue will confess him as Lord. He reigns and his kingdom will endure forever.
We do not see him as king or ruler over the earth because his kingdom is in us, in the hearts of those who trust him and live for him. He is the chief corner stone of God’s house and we must be built on him. But he was rejected by mankind on earth and is still being rejected by many, even today. That does not make his rule void or his kingdom null. His kingdom is his church, the family of God.
The kingdom of God (his church) on earth is the foretaste of heaven itself. So that when we who are his leave this earth, when we die, it is simply a transition from this land of sorrow, pain and suffering to a place that has no tears or sin. This is why we are to be made into his image now, so that we will be like him when he comes again to take us home. We will be given that eternal body to live forever with our Lord. As his people we are to love each other, even as he loves us. We are to be forgiving to others as he has forgiven us. We minister to others as he has ministered to us and has put our needs and interests ahead of his own.
Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your love, for your giving Jesus to come to earth and be made sin for me. Thank you for your forgiveness so I can be made righteous in him. Give me a heart of love, a heart that loves you above all else and that seeks to obey you in all things. Never allow me to use your grace as license to indulge in sin. Fill me with your Spirit so I can become more like you each day. Use me today to see and use the opportunity to serve others. Increase my faith in Jesus as my Lord, as my King and as my Savior. I humbly pray in his name.
