Daily Devotional: Psalms 61:1-8
Ps 61:1-8
1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. 2 From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. 4 I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. Selah 5 For you have heard my vows, O God; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. 6 Increase the days of the king's life, his years for many generations. 7 May he be enthroned in God's presence forever; appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him. 8 Then will I ever sing praise to your name and fulfill my vows day after day.
Eph 3:20-21
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
Phil 4:13
13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
There was a man who had a chance to be great and to do something for his God, for which he would be remembered by his people. But his plan failed and he had to flee for his life, becoming a lowly shepherd on the hillside of a foreign country. His life was finished and he was all washed up. But God called Moses when he was eighty years old and gave him a mission – which he was able to accomplish with the help and power of God. He is still remembered today for his faith.
There was a young farm boy who was afraid of the invading armies and hid in the winepress to thrash out his wheat. He was nothing special for his nation or even for his family. But God called Gideon and as one of the judges and with the power of God, he lead Israel in the defeat of the Midianites who were oppressing them.
We could talk about Samson who was nothing until God empowered him or David who as the youngest son and was a lowly shepherd boy until God chose him to become the greatest King of his day and rule over a world empire. All of these believed in God and trusted him. When we believe and we pray with faith, there is no limit to what God can do with us and through us. Praise the Lord!
Heavenly Father use me to be what you want me to be. Give me your strength to be a godly husband, father and grandfather. Give me wisdom to teach your word but even more, give me strength to live it in my life daily. Help me remember that I am nothing without you and your power and all that I do and all that I am is by your grace and for your glory. Be with all who read this that they will love you and trust you and serve Jesus as their Lord. In his name I humbly pray.
