Daily Devotional: Psalms 85:1-7
Ps 85:1-7
1 You showed favor to your land, O LORD; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. 2 You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. Selah 3 You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger. 4 Restore us again, O God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. 5 Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? 6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? 7 Show us your unfailing love, O LORD, and grant us your salvation.
2 Thess 2:13-15
13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.
Most of us at times in our lives have felt that God has forgotten us and or that he is not aware of what we are facing. It seems that things pile up on us and, even though we pray earnestly, we see no relief or maybe things get worse. We then begin to wonder what we are doing wrong for him to punish us so or we begin to doubt his goodness or his faithfulness. Where is God when I need him?!
Paul told the Romans that since God has gone to the length of giving his Son for us so that we can have eternal life, there is no limit as to what he will now do for us. In other words (using our mental capacity) God has so much invested in us now that he cannot afford to abandon us. This reminds me of the men who walked with Jesus after his resurrection and did not realize it was him until their eyes were opened. He may be walking with us and we just do not recognize him.
So today we put our trust in the Lord. Faith is seeing the unseen and resting in the assurance that we are safe in his arms. Our lack of understanding does not negate his faithfulness. What seems to be tragedy to us, he is working for our good so we will be more like him and be ready to live with him in the eternal home.
O Lord, you know I have no friend like you. If heaven is not my home, then Lord, what will I do? Help me open my eyes and see your working in my life and use me to help others. I need you every hour to walk with me and to hold my hand. Thank you for your love shown to me in so many ways. Thank you for answering my prayers and for guiding my life, even when I do not see it at the moment or understand what is happening at the time. Keep me from ever doubting you and your goodness. Give me wisdom from above. I pray in the name of Jesus.
