Daily Devotional: Psalms 104:19-26
Ps 104:19-26
The moon marks off the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. Then man goes out to his work, to his labor until evening. How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number--living things both large and small. There the ships go to and fro, and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.
1 Cor 1:27-29
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.
One of the things that has amazed me is how mankind thinks we are so smart, only to find out that we were wrong all the time. The world is flat. The scientists all agree on this and anyone who thinks otherwise is foolish. When someone gets really sick, put a bunch of leaches on them and cleanse their blood. This will make them well. All the doctors agree on this. For years it was “do not eat eggs” and now the same brilliant doctors are saying eat them at least three times a week.
Over the years people have come up with all kinds of gods and all kinds of ideas that will give us eternal life. Many even believed that the “fountain of youth” really did exist and that it would provide eternal youth. Many who say they believe in the Bible think that we just keep the 10 Commandments, or we do more good than bad or we just be “pretty good” people and we will have eternal life.
The only eternal life offered to us is in Jesus Christ. It is all about what he has done for us and what he offers to us. Our obedience only has value when it comes from a heart of faith and genuine trust. When we humbly accept his grace and we die to self, we can have the promise of eternal life in Jesus Christ.
Thank you, God, for making him who knew no sin, to be sin for us so that we can become the righteousness of God in him. Thank you for accepting the sacrifice of Jesus and his death in the place of the death I deserve for my sin. Lord, give your healing and your peace to those who are sick and those who are hurting. Use me to lift them up and help them in their dark hour. Thank you for the freedoms I enjoy every day and I ask you to be with our leaders so these freedoms will continue and we can live peaceful lives. I humbly pray in Jesus name.

P.S. Yesterday I said that hummingbirds catch a ride on geese when migrating. One reader googled this and found it to be a myth and not fact. Thanks to our reader for letting me know. This just goes to show that we cannot believe everything we hear. rf
