Daily Devotional: Psalms 107:10-16
Ps 107:10-16
Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. 14 He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains. 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.
Rom 5:5-8
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still helpless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Just when it seems we have lost all hope or when life has completely tumbled in on us, we see the hand of God reaching out to us or we feel his peace rush over us with a mighty calm. There is no such thing as helpless or hopeless when God is with us and Jesus is walking beside us. It may be a physical problem or it may be emotional issues that are plaguing us or it may be financial or relationships that are broken, but God has the answer and faith is the victory that overcomes.
The thing that gets in our way all too often is that we are wanting what we want or what we think is best for us at the time. But real faith, genuine trust in God, in his wisdom, in his love for us and in his ability to perform his will in us is hard for us to accept and to live in our minds and in our lives. But God is faithful.
It is like when dad tells the boy to jump, and he will catch him but he is scared to let go. It is hard for us to let go so God can take over control of every part of our lives. Our peace and our joy is not found in being in control but is most full when we totally submit to the will of God for us today. Jump, he will catch you!
O Lord God, while I never want to put you to the test in my life, I do want to trust you and to be willing to jump from my comfort zone and allow you to give me real peace and genuine joy. I know that there are others who have suffered with things in their lives that I have never had to face, so I do not want to sound like I have all the answers. Yet, in my life I have faced some pretty serious issues and you have always been there for me and have helped me through each one, even when it seemed totally hopeless at the time. I thank you, in Jesus name.
