Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:41-48
Ps 119:41-48 Waw
May your unfailing love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise; then I will answer the one who taunts me, for I trust in your word. Do not snatch the word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in your laws. I will always obey your law, for ever and ever. I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. I will speak of your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame, for I delight in your commands because I love them. I lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and I meditate on your decrees.
James 1:22-25
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it-he will be blessed in what he does.
I overheard a conversation between an adult and a teenager recently, and the adult was saying that “this is church night” (it was Wednesday). The young person responded by saying that for the first time in their life they not only enjoyed going to church but actually got excited when it was time to be there. This young lady had reached a milestone in her spiritual life where she actually enjoys the freedom that is in Jesus Christ. The perfect law of Jesus gives freedom to us.
As we yield to God, we find that our service comes from a willing heart and not from what we must do or have to do. This is what Jesus meant when he told the Samaritan woman at the well that we must worship in truth; genuine worship that is from a willing and eager heart to serve and glorify God and Jesus.
We can live with no guilt of sin. We can live with the assurance that we are in a right relationship with God. We can live with the joy that is in Christ Jesus because we are walking in his light and drinking from his living water. This is life with no more worry, no anxiety about things around us, no guilt, no fear, only joy in Jesus!
O Lord, my Lord, and my God, I am so thankful for the freedom you give me in Jesus Christ. To know him as my Savior fills my heart with joy and peace. Thank you for the freedom that comes from knowing your word. Give me strength to do what I know needs to be done in your service. Help me keep my priorities in the right order. I ask you to be with your people in this world that we can all stand for your truth and those that are lost will see Jesus living in each of us and want to serve you. Holy and righteous is your name in the earth. In Jesus name.
