Daily Devotional: Psalms 93:1-5
Ps 93:1-5
The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. The seas have lifted up, O Lord, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea — the Lord on high is mighty. Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O Lord.
Rev 5:11-12
Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!"
Paul said he could do all things through Christ who gave him strength. He also said that God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or can imagine by the power of the Holy Spirit living in us. We teach our children to sing that our God is mighty and there is nothing that he cannot do. It may be that we do not receive because we do not ask or that we ask not believing that God can or will give it.
Jesus could do anything he chose to do while he was on earth, but one time it says that he was unable to perform many miracles in that place because the people did not believe in him. What great blessings that town could have had but did not get because of their lack of faith. What are we missing because we don’t ask or don’t believe that God can or will give it to us? As individuals, family, church, or nation?
What do you need in your life today? Ask God! Believe that he will give it! If he chooses to not give it as we ask, praise him anyway because of his majesty, his power, and his infinite wisdom which gives what is best for us. We are to come to his throne with boldness and confidence. Nothing is too big for God. Nothing is too small or trivial to merit his attention. It is never a bother to God for us to ask, if we ask humbly (his will, not our own), and with thanksgiving.
O Lord God, I am asking you to heal some special friends who are taking cancer treatments. I know that you have the power to do so. I ask you to heal another special friend who is awaiting a kidney transplant but who has other issues as well. I pray for the doctors and other health care providers that they will act with wisdom, but even more I ask for your healing power on each of them. Lord, heal our sin sick nation. Give us leaders who respect you and your word. Take away the strife and discord across the land. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
