Daily Devotional: Psalms 96:1-7
Ps 96:1-7
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary. Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
1 Cor 8:5-6
For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
Jesus is Lord, and he is worthy of praise! We have said for years that we put God first in our lives and then family, and then ourselves. Is this true? For many in the world, it is just the opposite with it being, self, family and then God. Some would say that they go to church, they don’t cuss or steal, they don’t commit adultery or watch porn, or they don’t even watch “R” rated movies, so God is first.
I had someone say to me recently that he believed that God would judge us on how we treat other people. My response was that John said if we do not love our brothers and sisters, then we do not really love God. When Jesus told the religious leaders of his day that they had their priorities all wrong, it was because they did all the “check boxes” at the synagogue, but failed to show mercy, compassion and justice. We are to love as God loves us. We are to forgive as God forgives us.
We must proclaim Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Savior from sin. We are not to be ashamed of confessing his name or being called a Christian. There are those who would use this name to slander someone because they equate it with being narrow minded and full of hate. Just the opposite should be true. Christians are to be people of love, seeking peace, always ready to show compassion, and willing to listen to reason, never prejudiced or bigoted, showing the love of Jesus.
O Lord, my God, I look at your creation and wonder with awe at your wisdom, your power, and your majesty. Your creation is filled with beauty, the songs of the birds, the wildflowers in the field, the ocean waves, and the creek in the woods. I praise you for the wonderful people you have put into my life, and each one, just when I needed them the most. Please give your peace and your healing to those who are taking treatments and others who are sick. Be with those who are struggling with personal problems and family issues. I pray in the name of Jesus.
