Daily Devotional: Psalms 115:14-18

Ps 115:14-18

May the Lord make you increase, both you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. The highest heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth he has given to man. It is not the dead who praise the Lord, those who go down to silence; it is we who extol the Lord, both now and forevermore. Praise the Lord.

Eph 1:2-4

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.

In our minds we make almost everything relative. We measure success by what we think someone else has or has achieved. We measure beauty by what others look like. We measure ourselves by others and others are held up to the standard we see in our memory of those from our past. This is natural since the only thing by which we can measure is what we have in our memory from our experiences.

But we have only seen a very small glimpse of God, even in our most awesome experience or moment of faith. This means that no matter how hard we try, we do not see God in our minds as he truly exists in glory, in power, in wisdom, in might and in majesty. As we come to know him better, by his word, by his creation, and by his presence in our lives, we begin to grasp the unfathomable God we serve.

How do we measure up to him? Paul said we all sin because we all fall short of the glory of God. The result of that sin is that we die – both physically and even more devastatingly, spiritually. But in Jesus Christ we can have the free gift of eternal life. By his grace we can have our sins forgiven and live with Jesus forever.

“Who is man, that you are mindful of him?” This great and awesome God knows each of us by name. He knows our problems. He understands our weaknesses. He hears our crying and knows our pain. He also hears our praise and thanksgiving because he loves each of us. God loves you and me so much that he sent his Son to save us from sin. It is up to us to accept his marvelous salvation in Jesus Christ.

O Lord God, help me realize just how small I am in your sight. When I think of all of your creation, and I see myself, I know how insignificant I really am in the overall scheme of things. Yet, I also know that you know me and that you love me as your own. Thank you for providing eternal life in Jesus Christ. Help me live every day with the realization that I belong to you and that I owe you for all that I am or ever will be. Holy, Holy, Holy, is your name in all the earth. Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive honor, glory and power. In his name I pray.
