Daily Devotional: Psalms 143:1-6

Ps 143:1-6

O Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you. The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in darkness like those long dead. So, my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed. I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. I spread out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah

Rom 8:31-32

What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Life can be hard at times. We all face sickness, we face problems in relationships and friendships, there are financial struggles for many, and then there is the day-to-day routine of raising our children and all that entails. For some, there is the constant battle of addiction to whatever is controlling them. There is grief in varying levels for almost all of us, and especially as we get older. Life is tough.

Life can be easy, happy, and filled with hope and joy! This doesn’t mean that we have everything that we want or that we have no problems or that we never get sick. The good life is available for each of us when we decide that we are going to be happy, contented, joyful and hopeful. We face each day and each problem with the assurance that God is with us, and that Jesus is always near. We have won the victory, even before the battle begins because God is on our side.

One of the most contented, happy, and hopeful people I have ever known was a lady who had Lou Gehrig’s disease for about fifteen years. She was completely paralyzed, could not speak a word, and could only communicate by blinking her eyes. But she had a heart filled with love and she knew that when all of this was over, she was going to be with her Lord, in a completely new and imperishable body. Because of her attitude, you could be having a bad day or be down in the dumps, and a visit with her would lift your spirits and leave you with a smile.

O Lord God, help me get over myself and my problems and realize that all of this is just temporary. Remind me that the rainbow comes after the storm and spring, with all the beauty of the flowers, comes after each harsh winter. Lord, I know that my problems are real, but I also know that none of them are too big for you to handle. Increase my faith so that I trust you, no matter what I face. Thank you for my family. Thank you for my friends. Thank you for the opportunity to help others in their struggles. Use me in your way to do your will. I pray in Jesus’ name.
