Daily Devotional: Psalms 147:1-6
Ps 147:1-6
Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.
1 Peter 1:3-5
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade — kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
Praise the Lord for his goodness and his lovingkindness! When we try to think of all the good things God has done for us, we come up far short of reality. We can look at our lives and know that he has blessed us, and we can see the times he has healed us or has kept us from harm, or has provided what we needed, but even then, we fail to see so much of what he does for us every day. God is so good!
When we think with finite minds, we can never fathom his infinite mind. When we measure things with physical measurements, we will never comprehend the vast spiritual realities around us. But we are physical, and we are finite, and we do have all kinds of limitations. God is not bound by our frailties, nor is he bound by our logic. He is always working things for the good of those who love him.
Praise the Lord! He knows each star by name, but humans have never even seen all of the stars. He knows all of our ancestors, but he also knows all of those who will follow us in years to come. God knows your name and he knows mine. He really does understand the worst problem you will face today. But he already knows how to solve it as well and he has the ability to do it. Trust him. One of the most difficult things in life is to learn to get out of the way and let God have his way with us and in us. He knows best in every situation we face. Praise the Lord!
O Lord my God, I stand in awe at your matchless power, your wonderful wisdom, and your infinite love. I try to imagine your glory and your majesty but the best that comes to my mind, I know, is far short of who you are. I then think how that I am just one of billions of things you have made, and yet, you know me, and you love me. Help me get out of your way and let you have your way with me and my life. I need your wisdom. I need your strength. I need your motivation. Use me to help and to encourage others to live for you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
