Daily Devotional: Psalm 92:11-15
Psalm 92:11-15 11 My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries; my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes. 12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; 13 planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, 15 proclaiming, "The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”
God is our victor. No matter what we face in life, we can rest assured that God knows what is best and will be with us to the end. As the apostle Paul faced the end of his life, he increasingly looked forward to the day he could leave this earth and really go home. It was not because he was depressed or discouraged here. It was because in his mind he could envision the glory of God and what it would be like to actually be in the presence of his Lord. He had many friends and fellow Christians whom he loved dearly. He often spoke of them and daily prayed for them. But he realized that there were even more that had already gone to be with the Lord and he would be with them in eternity. He enjoyed his work here on earth but looked forward to the reward for that work even more. He just did not love this world or the things of this world as much as he loved God and anticipated singing in that eternal and glorious chorus. So he told us to keep our eyes on the things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. It is so easy for us look around and get distracted by all that is going on in this world. There are reasons to be concerned, there are causes that are worthwhile to be espoused and there is so much to keep us busy. Much of this is good and has value but not if it takes our eyes off of the Savior. Peter made this mistake when he was walking on the water toward Jesus as he saw the waves and the felt the wind blowing all around him and he began to sink. So, let us use each day and each moment of each day to live for our Lord. We can help those in need or share a moment with someone who is lonely. We can say a kind word of encouragement to someone who is facing trials in their life. In it all, let us rejoice in the Lord always! Again, let us rejoice in the Lord!
Thank you heavenly Father for your love for me. Thank you for allowing me to know your will and to have been given opportunities to study your word under those who were so much knowledgeable and wiser than me. Help me make up my mind every new day to live that day for you. Give me wisdom to see the many opportunities you provide me to serve others and the self-control to use them. I ask a special blessing on those who are providing loving care for their loved ones who are sick and facing life’s end. I pray in the name of Jesus.
