Psalms 105:1-6
1 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 2 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. 4 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. 5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, 6 O descendants of Abraham his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
We can never be too excited about what God has done for us. Even in the midst of trials and problems, we have reason to rejoice. Not only can we see the things of the past that he has done and given us but we can know that in the end we will see his face and rejoice in his presence. What a glorious day that will be!
Not long after the church began we read where the Jewish leaders arrested Peter and the other apostles. They had been preaching Jesus and saying these leaders were responsible for having him killed but that God had raised him from the dead and had exalted him to be the long awaited Messiah. Then they said that God had taken Jesus back to heaven where he was ruling on the throne of David. Based on this preaching the Jews were to acknowledge they had sinned and turn in faith to Jesus as their Savior. The High Court threatened the apostles and told them they were not to preach any more in the name of Jesus.
Peter told them they must listen to God and not to man. This court had probably never had anyone defy them like this before so they conferred and decided to just further warn them at this time. After they had flogged the apostles they let them go. And then comes one of the most amazing statements: they left rejoicing, being counted worthy to suffer in the name of Jesus. They were not complaining, moaning or groaning; they were rejoicing and praising God.
Paul and Silas had this same reaction when they were arrested in Philippi for healing the young slave girl from demon possession. They had been beaten (even without a trial), put in the inner prison with their feet in the stocks. Instead of complaining how unfair it was or thinking how to get even, they were singing and praying. They knew in the end, they would be the victors with God in heaven.
O God, give me greater faith to trust you in all things. When my life is not fair and when my way gets rough, open my eyes to see you more clearly and my heart to know your constant love and care for me. Forgive me when I complain and help me count my many blessings every day. Lord, there are friends of mine who are suffering today and I ask you to heal their broken hearts, give them faith to know your love and peace that only you give. Be with those who have lost loved ones recently and comfort them. I pray in the name of Jesus.
