Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:7-15

Psalms 105:7-15

7 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. 8 He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations, 9 the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. 10 He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: 11 "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit." 12 When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it, 13 they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. 14 He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings: 15 "Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”

God’s protection is forever on those who trust in him. He does mighty deeds and provides all that is needed for them. In the Bible we read of the miracles that God performed with the children of Israel and we begin to think that is the only time God was working for them. Actually that was only a small part of what he was doing with them and for them. He was forever changing the events that could happen but did not and was arranging the circumstances they would face.

The mighty signs, miracles and wonders that God performed (both with Moses and without his aid) were done to promote faith in the Israelites and fear in the hearts of the enemies. John says the miracles of Jesus were recorded so we can have faith in him as the Son of God and by believing, have life in his name. He goes on to say many more were performed but these are enough.

Just because we do not see the powerful miracles such as parting the waters, or Jesus walking on the water or healing the lame, blind or deaf does not mean God is not at work every moment of our lives. When we walk by faith, we can know that God is working to make sure that all things are working together for our good. We can know that he is altering events in our lives so we will never be tempted beyond what we are able to bear. He is weaving the circumstances around us to provide a way of escape when it is needed. God is still very much alive and active in the lives of his children.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your love for me. Thank you for all you do for me in making my life what it is today. I am very thankful for the many people you have put into my life to help make me what I am and to encourage me when I have been ready to quit. I thank you for my parents who taught me as a child and for my wife who has been my constant faithful companion to support me in my service to you. There have been so many friends over the years and each has played his or her role because you put them there and I praise you for every one of them. Use me in your will today. I pray in the name of Jesus.
