Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:1-5
Psalms 106:1-5
1 Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD or fully declare his praise? 3 Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right. 4 Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people, come to my aid when you save them, 5 that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of your nation and join your inheritance in giving praise.
There have been those who were very close to God and sought to always do his will and were given the opportunity to actually come before him. The response of each was basically the same when they came into his presence. They fell on their faces and proclaimed in great fear that they deserved to die because they had seen God. His majesty and his glory is so far beyond our ability to imagine and yet we sometimes trivialize him to being like us.
When we read of heaven and all the beauty and glory of that place, we stand in awe. There are words used that we can understand to describe a place that is beyond our understanding. Such phrases as streets of gold or walls of jasper or gates of jewels or river of crystal are used to give us a picture of the most beautiful place we can imagine. Yet, these pale in comparison to the actuality of coming into the presence of our God.
When we read the story of creation, we read of his majesty and his power. He simply spoke and each part came into existence. Even this story shows his wisdom as he created things in the only order that life could survive. This was written long before anyone actually knew it had to be in this order – which is another of many proofs that God is the author of the Bible. So we read that the heavens declare the glory of God and the skies show forth his handiwork.
Yet, this great majestic and powerful God loves us. Yes, he loves you and he loves me. In spite of our sin he wants to be with us and to have fellowship with us. He has made this possible by giving his Son to die for our sin that we might be able to live with him in eternity. What a glorious God, worthy of all praise!
Heavenly Father, thank you for your love for me. Give me a greater understanding of your majesty, awesome power and infinite wisdom so I will honor you as I should in every part of my life. Keep me from ever taking your name in vain or in anything degrading you by putting you on our level. Thank you for giving your Son so I can have eternal life and be with you in heaven. Give me a greater measure of your Spirit so I can become more like you every day. Give me compassion to help others as they seek to know you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
