Daily Devotional: Psalms 111:1-5
Psalms 111:1-5
1 Praise the LORD. I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. 2 Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them. 3 Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. 4 He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate. 5 He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.
I heard a story of a lady who lived on the streets. However it was discovered that she actually owned a three bedroom brick home in the town where she was. On the coldest nights she might go and sleep on her front porch but otherwise she only went by on occasion to get her mail.
Why would anyone want to live like this? Why would she put up with the heat, the cold and the many dangers of the streets? Why would anyone not stay in their home instead of living like this? We think surely she must have some mental or emotional issues to live in this way year after year.
Jesus promised that when we live for him we will have the abundant life and have it fully! There are so many things that Christians don’t have to worry about. We don’t have to worry about what we said because we only speak truth. We don’t have to worry about what others think of us because we are only seeking to please God. We are not concerned about having enemies because we treat others the way we would want to be treated.
Sure, we will have our problems. There will be those who will seek to do us harm and try to stop what we are doing. In fact, in our country we see more and more each day the hatred for any who profess to be Christians and then we are labeled as the haters. Our way of life is ridiculed because it is misunderstood.
We have this life because we serve a God who is all powerful and in complete control of all things and he loves us as his very own. We can face the worst trials and hardships with assurance that he is with us every step of the way. We know that he is gracious and compassionate so we seek to be like that also. He is love so we learn to love others, even if they don’t deserve it or want it.
O God, I am so thankful for your love and your grace that allows me to be forgiven and to be your child. I thank you for Jesus who died to make this possible but who lives to give me the assurance of eternal life. Help me use all you have given me to your glory and not be selfish. Give me wisdom to only say things that will build others up and help me never tear anyone down. Please be with those in China and in Africa who are struggling to serve you in very difficult conditions and give them your courage and your peace. I pray in the name of Jesus.
