Daily Devotional: Psalms 113:1-9
Psalms 113:1-9
1 Praise the LORD. Praise, O servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD. 2 Let the name of the LORD be praised, both now and forevermore. 3 From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised. 4 The LORD is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens. 5 Who is like the LORD our God, the one who sits enthroned on high, 6 who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? 7 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; 8 he seats them with princes, with the princes of their people. 9 He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD.
We live in a world that is filled with all kinds of video media where the younger generations have grown up watching, TV, internet and all kinds of movies and videos. These are filled with all kinds of special effects, camera tricks and special editing to make things that are impossible seem very real. This may have dulled the senses of some toward the many miracles and the mighty power of God as it is revealed in the Bible. Any miracle recorded in Scripture can appear to be duplicated on film.
God is real! His power and his miracles are real! Our God is an awesome God and this is not just a phrase that is applied today to a new pair of jeans, shirt or a new hairdo. God really did create (made from nothing) the universe, our world and all that is in it. He gave the heavenly bodies their course and they follow his command. He put the boundaries on the seas as they move with accurate prediction with the tides. He created Adam and Eve in his own image and as the crown of his creation with the ability to submit to him or reject him.
God is still God and he still knows every detail of our lives and our circumstances and he is deeply moved by our troubles and trials. He knows what we need, when we need it and just how much – whether good or bad. He also has complete control over the nations, rulers, kings, presidents and dictators. They may or may not recognize him as God or look to him for guidance but he is still in control and nothing is done without his knowledge and consent. Praise the LORD!
Heavenly Father, God of all creation, I recognize that I am as a speck of dust in this world and the history of it. I know that in your sight I am nothing. Yet, I also know you have told me that you see and know me as your child, forgiven for all the wrong I have done. Thank you for loving me and thank you for forgiving me, even when I do not deserve it. Give me wisdom and strength to live in such a way that your name will be honored, be glorified and you will be praised. Use me to help those others as they face trials in their lives. I pray in the name of Jesus.
