Daily Devotional: Psalms 115:9-13
Psalms 115:9-13
9 O house of Israel, trust in the LORD--he is their help and shield. 10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD--he is their help and shield. 11 You who fear him, trust in the LORD--he is their help and shield. 12 The LORD remembers us and will bless us: He will bless the house of Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron, 13 he will bless those who fear the LORD--small and great alike.
We previously discussed the absurdity of trusting in and worshipping idols. The kind of idol does not matter, whether it be made of wood, stone, precious metals adorned with jewels or if it is just in our imagination or is our attitude toward self and the world around us, such as greed or pleasure. Any or all of these allow us to make our gods in our image and therefore we can worship them in any way we choose and call anything service to them.
The God we can trust is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He is the God of the Bible who created the heavens and the earth. He is the God who made man in his image and gave him a female mate to make his life complete. This is the God who has given his word and revealed himself to us in both written form and in his Son who came to earth and lived as a man. Jesus came to earth to show us how to live and be like God but also he came to die for our sin so that we might be counted as righteous in him. This is the only God we serve and in whom we trust.
When one studies the many religions of the world, their gods are gods that seek them harm and must be appeased. There are none of them that love their subjects with an unconditional love. None of them understand the concept of forgiveness for doing wrong. Each of them requires some kind of works to offset the wrong and thus to do more good than evil to win their favor.
Our God is love. It is his love for mankind, even while we were his enemies that caused him to feel compassion when we sinned against him and destroyed our fellowship with him. His compassion brought forth his mercy and so in his grace he devised his plan of redemption so we could be restored in his fellowship and counted as part of his family. This is the only God that can be trusted and will always do what is designed for our good and ultimate eternal life.
O God, my heavenly Father, I thank you for you love, your compassion, your mercy and your grace so that I can be your child and live in hope of eternal life with you. Thank you for the wonderful life you have given me, the many blessings I enjoy every day and the fellow Christians who encourage me so much. Help me be a giver and not a taker. Use me and all you have given me to do your will and to serve others in their quest to be like you. I thank you for your continued love and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. It is in his name I pray.
