Daily Devotional: Psalms 145:14-21
Ps 145:14-21
14 The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. 15 The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. 16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. 17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made. 18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. 19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. 20 The LORD watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. 21 My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD. Let every creature praise his holy name forever and ever.
God loves everyone. He made us and we are his creation. God loves those who ignore him and he loves those who radically fight against him. God loves the ones who legislate laws opposed to his divine precepts and he loves those who ridicule the righteous. That does not mean he approves any of these things or that he is oblivious to them. I am sure that his attitude is the same as it was in the days of Noah or when he destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. God still hates sin but he still loves those who have been captivated by Satan.
All that exists is the creation of his mind and his power so he sustains it and supplies our needs. He sends the rain on the just and the unjust. He makes the sun shine on those who love him and those who show nothing but hatred toward him. He supplies water and food for the animals as well as for people. He cannot but help to be concerned about us and our wellbeing.
His love is not like the kind we too often express when we say we love but our actions don’t reflect it. God loves everyone enough that he provided a way for every person who has ever lived and who will live on the earth to be with him in eternity. While not all of us have committed the same sins, we all have sinned and we all fall short of his glory. Now this is love, not that we loved him but he loves us and gave his son to be the substitute sacrifice for our sins. While we were his enemies, he gave his Son to die for our sin. That is love!
O God, I thank you for your love. I am so sorry that my sin made it necessary for you to send your Son to suffer and die. As I look around and see so much evil and wickedness on every hand, help me love as you love me. Help me never see sin as being acceptable but help me always love those who have been deceived by the devil and to have compassion toward them. Give me strength to stand for truth and to share your gospel with all who will listen. Forgive me when I fail to be all you want me to be, when I say things I should not or fail to speak when I should. Fill me with love, compassion and forgiveness. I pray in the name of Jesus.
