Daily Devotional: Psalms 148:1-6
Ps 148:1-6
1 Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens, praise him in the heights above. 2 Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his heavenly hosts. 3 Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars. 4 Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies. 5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for he commanded and they were created. 6 He set them in place for ever and ever; he gave a decree that will never pass away.
One of the first keys to knowing and respecting God for who he really is comes from believing the Bible account of creation. If we discard the first chapters of the Bible as myth or fiction or if we try to explain them as not being literal, we have removed one of the greatest reasons for trusting God. He is God and he created the world and all that is in it. He created the heavens and waters above the sky as well as the ocean depths and all that live therein. He placed each of the heavenly bodies in their proper place with just the right movements in both direction and speed. He did all this by his powerful word.
The scientists who study the heavenly bodies can predict with absolute certainty where each will be relative to the others for the next one hundred or the next thousand years and each will be in its place. If that doesn’t prove intelligent design, how else could it be proven? Is it really logical to believe that the sun, moon and stars just happened to come into existence by some great explosion and they just happened to each be in the position to sustain life on earth? This makes about as much sense as seeing a snowman in the yard and believing it just formed by chance as the snow fell and the arms came from the falling limbs of a tree and just happened to land in the right place. That carrot nose must have been from some kid not wanting to each his vegetables and so he threw it out the window and it stuck in that snow man’s face. Why is this not as believable as the ridiculous theories of evolution being taught as science?
God is creator of all and he receives the praise of his creation. The heavenly hosts declare his power every day. The earth and all that is in it praise his Holy Name every moment. We may choose not to hear it but God hears it loudly.
Heavenly Father, creator of all that is, I give you praise and glorify your name. Use me to bring honor to you as you mold me into your likeness. Open the eyes of so many who refuse to acknowledge you as God. I pray this morning for your special guidance in the elections coming next year in our government. Please give us leaders who will honor you, respect your word and follow your wisdom as they direct the affairs of this nation. Help all who call on Jesus as Lord to show respect to the officials who govern us, even when we don’t agree. In Jesus name.
