Daily Devotional: Psalms 7:14-17
Ps 7:14-17
14 He who is pregnant with evil and conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment. 15 He who digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit he has made. 16 The trouble he causes recoils on himself; his violence comes down on his own head. 17 I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
Gal 6:7-9
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary. (NAS)
In this life we see exceptions to the rule that “what goes around, comes around” because there are those who are just plain mean but seem to prosper. There are people who are dishonest but seem to get ahead in business. In fact, it seems that sometimes the most wicked, ruthless, selfish and arrogant are the ones who are the most successful. Another truism: Things are not always as they seem.
We must never forget that God is in control. While he may allow the wicked to prosper for a while, they will answer to him. It may seem that their sins are not being punished but there is a time of judgment coming. The wages of sin is death and those who sow to the flesh will reap corruption.
The other side of this is that if we do not lose heart in doing good, in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. We cannot give up on God. No matter how things may seem at times in this life, we have the promise of a heavenly reward and that promise will not be broken. The burdens are heavy at times or the pain may be almost unbearable but God will give us the strength to carry on and be victors in Jesus. We are surrounded in this world where we live and it makes it easy to forget about the things above and the promises of God. This is one of the reasons we need to study his word every day and spend “much time in secret with Jesus alone.” Don’t give up because we reap what we sow.
Heavenly Father, it is so wonderful to be your child. There have been some really bad times in my life but you have carried me through every one of them. There have been those who have tried to discourage me or make me turn against you, your word and your truth but you have given me strength to carry on. I am sure there will be more difficult times and discouragements but I know I can trust you to overcome each of them. Increase my faith and give me wisdom. Use me to help and comfort others in their times of need. I pray in the name of Jesus.
