Daily Devotional: Psalms 8:1-5

Ps 8:1-5

1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

Heb 2:10-12

10 In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11 Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.

What is mankind that the God who created all that exists, is mindful of each one of us? Who am I that God actually knows me? Over the years I have had the opportunity of actually meeting a few famous celebrities and dignitaries. If you were to ask any of them about me, none would remember the occasion or know who I am. This is because of their status in life as compared to mine. This does not make me feel bad but rather makes me see them in their elevated position.

God created the entire universe; all that is in it, including the celebrities and even the kings and queens. Yet God knows me. God knows you. God knows each one of us and remembers the exact occasion we last talked with him! How can this great, magnificent and powerful God know us? Or even more mysterious, why?

It is because he loves us and gave his very best Son to die so we can be with him in eternity. Not only does he know us but he actually wants us to be with him, in his presence. Since he has made us a part of his holy family, this makes Jesus our brother. The author of our salvation and perfecter of our faith has made us holy and is not ashamed of us. I know the greatest celebrity of all time and he actually knows me! His name is Jesus.

Father and creator God, thank you for caring about me. Thank you for making it possible for me to be with you in eternity and thus giving meaning to my life. Use me to help others as I take on your love, mercy, compassion and forgiveness in my heart and my life. Forgive me when I fail to be like you. Give me wisdom to speak what needs to be said, in the right way and at the right time and more wisdom to keep my mouth shut when that is best. Help me encourage those who are struggling and lead others to you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
