Daily Devotional: Psalms 8:6-9

Ps 8:6-9

6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Heb 2:6-9

6 But there is a place where someone has testified: "What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 7 You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor 8 and put everything under his feet." In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him. 9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

In the creation of this world, God made man and then exalted him above all the rest of creation. This world and all that is in it is here for our good and our service. The earth is made to simply house mankind and all the rest of creation was made for our existence. This is opposite of the modernist view that says we are to serve the earth. (This is really a strange belief in light of their foundation belief that everything we know as matter happened by accident and evolved into the world as we know it today. Why would one serve an accident as god?)

In the first chapter of the book of Hebrews, the writer shows beyond doubt that Jesus is greater than the angels. Even the most exalted heavenly beings are there to minister to God but Jesus is the Son of God.

Phil 2:5-8 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!

Heavenly Father, It is so easy to take things for granted. Each day goes on as the day before it and life just seems to continue, year after year. Yet, I know you are in control and there is coming a day when my life will end and I will face you in judgment. Keep my faith in you and in Jesus as your Son strong so I will always strive to live for you and be what you want me to be. Forgive me when I fail. Keep me from being selfish and using what you give me on myself instead of helping those in need. Lord, it is hard to watch as friends and family suffer so I ask you to be with each one in your own special way. I pray in the name of Jesus.
