Daily Devotional: Psalms 9:1-6
Ps 9:1-6
1 I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. 2 I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. 3 My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you. 4 For you have upheld my right and my cause; you have sat on your throne, judging righteously. 5 You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever. 6 Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished.
Rom 15:5-6
5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 6 so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Since most of us have been raised and lived our lives in representative form of government, it is difficult for us to realize the absolute power of a monarch or king. As the wise man put it, the word of the king is final. Within the realm over which he (or she) ruled, no one even questioned decisions that were made and if they should it often resulted in death. David was such a king but was reasonable enough to listen to the unsolicited advice of others some of the time.
David recognized God as the Supreme King over the earth. The domain was the entire earth and there was not anyone who could question God. When God speaks or issues a decree, it will be that way in the end. One of the problems with our understanding is that God is not bound by time because that too is under his control. So in eternity, when God speaks, it is done – always done.
God is still king and he is still in control. We may not always see it or understand his reasons for things but he is still supreme. This means we can turn all our cares over to him and know he can and will take care of them. No matter what we face, it is easily resolved by God. Since he wants only what is best for his children, we can rest assured that he will act in our behalf and give only what is best for us. It may mean we have to face problems but he gives strength for us to overcome. He will never forget or forsake us because he loves his own.
O God, my heavenly Father, thank you for your love. As I think of you, I realize you cannot be measured in any way; whether power, wisdom, honor, riches or time. I need greater faith to comprehend this and to know you are in control. Help me lift my eyes above this world and the things of this world to see Jesus whom you have made King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Help me remember that his word is to be supreme in my thinking and in my life. Since he wants only what is best for me, help me give my best to him and to you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
