Daily Devotional: Psalms 10:16-18

Ps 10:16-18

16 The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. 17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, 18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.

Col 1:9-14

9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

As I type these devotionals each morning, I am reminded that some who receive them are family or dear friends, some are casual acquaintances, some of you I have never met and then some are forwarded to others that I don’t even know about. Yet, we all have one thing in common and that is that we are seeking to know God and live for him. With these thoughts in mind, it is my goal to help each of us have greater faith and to know the presence of our Lord in our lives on a daily basis. So I offer a prayer for each of you as you serve him.

We serve a God who loves us all and sees our affliction. He knows when others seek us harm or when disease racks our bodies. He helps us as we minister to the needs of our loved ones who are suffering. When our relationships are torn apart or are threatened by sin, he is our strength and anchor in life. We are not given all the reasons why we face these thing (and many others) but we find help in knowing that the worst we face in this life does not begin to compare with the glory of that eternal home with God and with our Lord, Jesus Christ.

O God, thank you for revealing yourself to me. Thank you for the Bible which tells me about you, about your love for me and how I can be a part of your family. As a part of your family, help me use all I have and all I am to your glory. Increase my faith so I never lose sight of you, of Jesus and of the things above. Forgive me when I fail. Give me wisdom to know how to build up others in their faith and to never hinder or tear down others. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
