Daily Devotional: Psalms 11:4-7
Ps 11:4-7
4 The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; his eyes examine them. 5 The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates. 6 On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. 7 For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.
2 Tim 3:11-16
12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
While in a court room recently, I could not help but notice the decorum. Before the judge entered the room, everyone was told to turn off (not just silence) their cell phones and there was to be no talking during the proceedings. Then the judge was announced and everyone was told to rise. He entered, sat down at his desk and the court was called to order. We sat down and the session began.
The Lord is in his holy temple and on his heavenly throne. How much more should we keep silence before him than some earthly judge! He not only is ruler over all things but he is the judge before whom all shall appear and give account. We may not see his justice being executed in this life as we see the wicked prosper and evil abound but there will be a time when all will stand before him and hear his final judgment being pronounced. Now is the time to prepare.
The great news for his children is that “there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” God made Jesus, who knew no sin to be sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in him. It is in his death that the sin of mankind is punished so that God is just but also so that he can be the justifier of those who accept his grace in Jesus Christ. So John says that perfected love casts out fear because fear has to do with punishment.
O Lord God, thank you for your love and for your wonderful provision of salvation in Jesus Christ. Thank you for allowing me to accept your grace and to be your child. Fill me with your Spirit so I can be molded in your image as I seek to live a life worthy of your calling. Please continue to forgive me when I fail and help me learn from each mistake. Give me a genuine hatred for sin but help me love even the worst sinner as I remember your forgiveness for my own sin. Give me wisdom to reach out to others with your gospel. I pray in the name of Jesus.
