Daily Devotional: Psalms 16:7-11
Ps 16:7-11
7 I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. 8 I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, 10 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy one see decay. 11 You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Acts 13:32-35
32 "We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers 33 he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: "'You are my Son; today I have become your Father.' 34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to decay, is stated in these words: "'I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.' 35 So it is stated elsewhere: "'You will not let your Holy one see decay.'
Our Psalm selection is one of many that has a dual meaning. While it was written concerning the Psalmist and the fact he would be raised from the grave, Paul also used it to prove that Jesus is the Messiah and that he was resurrected to live forever. This gives us hope for us because we will live again after this life and we will live eternally because Jesus was raised for us.
We often speak of the death of Jesus on the cross for our sins. We talk of his suffering on our behalf as we read from Isaiah the prophet and how he was wounded for our transgressions. But the death of Jesus would have no purpose if he had not been raised from the grave. It is this that sets him apart from all others who claim to be prophets and to be from God. All other religions have men who founded their beliefs but only Christians have a Lord and Savior who lives now and forever. But he lives, not just for himself, he lives and reigns so that we might live with him and reign with him. Praise God for his unfathomable wisdom in his gracious and glorious scheme of redemption in Jesus Christ!
Thank you God for loving me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be your child and to be able to live with hope and assurance of eternity with you. Help me show my gratitude in the way I live and in sharing the good news of Jesus with others. Forgive me when I sin and fail to live up to your glorious perfection. Open my heart to the molding of your Spirit and my eyes to seeing the beauties of heaven. Help me encourage others and never do anything to discourage those who are seeking to serve you. Please be with those who are sick and give your healing as you know best. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
