Daily Devotional: Psalms 17:13-15

Ps 17:13-15

13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword. 14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children. 15 And I--in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.

John 14:1-4

1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going."

I know where I live. I live in the United States of America, in the state of Alabama and in the county of Limestone. I googled it and saw a satellite picture of my house. I know where I live. But is this really my home? How much stress could we alleviate in our lives if we really believed our home was eternal in the heavens with God and with Jesus? Instead of being focused on our earthly dwellings and all the problems we face each day, we would know these are temporary as we are being made ready for that new body and those new mansions eternal.

Yes, the pain is real, the grief does hurt and the suffering seems to never end as we face each day and the trials it affords. But Paul said that the worst we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory of that which is to come.

As we begin this new week, let us resolve to focus on Jesus Christ and the things above, eternal in the heavens. We will set our eyes on the blessings we enjoy at the hand of God in more ways than we can count.  We will determine to use even our trials to make us more like God and learn new ways of using them to allow us to help others in their trials as well. We will graciously receive the comfort that God gives and then use it to comfort others in their distress. We will glorify God in our bodies, in our lives and in our attitudes as well. Praise the Lord, he is good!

O God, thank you for the many things you have done and continue to do for me every day. Thank you for being my Father and allowing me to come to you in prayer; to be able to talk with you at any time, knowing you will hear me. Thank you for the many Christian friends who encourage me daily by sharing both the good and bad I encounter. Give me greater faith to keep my eyes set on the things eternal, on you, on Jesus and on heaven. Use me to help others and to bring glory to you in all I do and say. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
