Daily Devotional: Psalms 18:30-36
Ps 18:30-36
30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? 32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. 34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. 36 You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.
Eph 6:10-12
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
While David was King over physical Israel and therefore had physical battles to face, we as God’s people still fight for our Lord. When we talk of our spiritual battles we need to remember that we are defending the honor of our great king, Jesus. Just as a soldier goes to war to defend his country and the flag that honors that country, so we as spiritual soldiers do the same. When we fail in a fight for right, we bring shame on Jesus and on our name as Christians but every time we defeat the enemy, we show honor to our Savior.
The great news found in both of the passages above is that we use the power of God to win! We have not been left without all we need to be victors. It is up to us to yield to the power of God and the leading of our King as we submit to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. But one of the things listed as part of the fruit of the Spirit in us is self-control. This means we have to actually put it into practice in our lives and learn to say “no” to temptation and sin and to say “yes” to doing the things that are right, good, wholesome and things that build us up and bring us closer to God. We can conquer with the power of God in us.
O God, great and Holy, I thank you for your love for me. Thank you for all you have given me and done for me in more ways than can be counted. Keep me from taking for granted the blessings you shower on me and keep me from thinking that I have attained them on my own. As the song says: “I need thee every hour, most holy Lord.” I know our great country has followed the way of Satan in so many areas and I ask for your mercy toward us. Give us leaders that will honor you and follow your will. I pray in the name of Jesus my only King.
