Daily Devotional: Psalms 18:43-50
Ps 18:43-50
43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations; people I did not know are subject to me. 44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cringe before me. 45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds. 46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! 47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, 48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me. 49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name. 50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
Rom 8:35-37
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Can you imagine being raised in a “normal” working class family raising sheep from an early age and then one day waking up to realize you are king of the entire world? God had promised David from an early age that one day he would be king of Israel and rule over all the nations. It had come to pass just as God said and now David was the most powerful person alive.
We serve the same God today and he still keeps his promises. Just as unlikely as David being king, God will use us in his service and in marvelous ways when we open our hearts to him as did his servant David. We may never be known outside of our community or local church but that does not mean we are not doing God’s work. This idea always bring to mind a country lady who raised five boys to be Christians and who all became preachers. Only God knows how much good they did in their lives and some of their sons are still preaching today. This lady has gone on but her great-grand daughter is married to a Christian in Russia.
O God, thank you for keeping your word in all things. Thank you for all you have done in my life to use me in your own way. Help me be more pliable to your will to be what you want me to be. Keep me from making excuses. As I live in this world of sin, keep me from evil. Please be with our nation and give us leaders who respect you and your word. Give me a greater understanding of your holiness and your awesome majesty so I will submit to you in every way. Help me be able to show others the joy of living for you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
