Daily Devotional: Psalms 19:1-6
Ps 19:1-6
1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. 3 There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. 4 Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, 5 which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. 6 It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat.
Acts 17:24-28
24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made every nation of men that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27 God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28 'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'
While there are not many (as compared to when Paul wrote this) who worship idols with inscriptions today, our world is filled with idolatry. We live in an age of humanism where people declare themselves to be gods. Our world is filled with greed which is another form of idol worship. Sports have taken the place of God so that they are first in the lives of far too many. The glamour of entertainment has allured many to fill their lives with the idols of vanity and self-fulfillment.
This world abounds with evidence that God is real and we belong to him. It seems to me that scientist and farmers should be among the most avid believers in God and his providence. The first because of the search for truth backed by evidence and the second because of their constant dependence on the providence of God and his working in all of nature to give them their bounty. God is real!
Father in heaven, holy and awesome is your name in all the earth. Thank you for the abundance of evidence you have given me to prove your existence. It is with deep joy and appreciation that I recognize you as God and give my life to you each day. Give me greater faith to stand for your truth in a world filled with those who do not believe in you and your word. Give me wisdom to better understand and apply your word in my life. Continue to forgive me when I fail to be all you want me to be. Use me as a blessing to others. I pray in the name of Jesus.
