Daily Devotional: Psalms 22:25-31
Ps 22:25-31
25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you will I fulfill my vows. 26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him--may your hearts live forever! 27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, 28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations. 29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him--those who cannot keep themselves alive. 30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. 31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn--for he has done it.
Col 1:18-20
18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
Many years ago I was offered a position on the city council of one of the larger cities in our nation. I was told my election would be guaranteed. The person who made the offer had the money, the clout, the connections and know-how to make it happen, so I never doubted it being a serious offer. He said “they” needed a fresh face with an honest reputation. I asked him what would be expected of me in return. He said I would do whatever they told me to do. I declined.
Today in our world there are those who are “rich and powerful” and many seem to think they are in control. They can do as they please and the world has to cater to them and their whims. Nothing could be farther from the truth. God is in control and Jesus is supreme. He is over all things and has all power. Just as I would have been a pawn in the hands of others, these leaders and rulers are but pawns in the hands of God. While they may rebel now, the time will come when they too will bow down and acknowledge Jesus as Lord and King.
Lord God, giver of life and creator of all things, I thank you and praise you. Thank you for your love for me and all of mankind. Thank you for giving your Son to die in my place and for my sin. Give me a more devoted heart to serve you and put you first in every part of my life. I need your wisdom to know how to live and to show others your way. I am thankful for this nation in which I live and pray your blessings on our leaders and each of us as citizens. Thank you for our freedoms and be with others who do not have these. I pray in the name of Jesus.
