Daily Devotional: Psalms 23:1-6
Ps 23:1-6
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Eph 1:3-6
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will- 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the one he loves.
What a joy to know that in Jesus Christ we have the God of heaven on our side to lead us, guide us and protect us. We can go to bed at night with the assurance that he has forgiven our sins through the blood of Jesus. We can awake and know there are many who love us and care for us because we have the same Father and Jesus is our brother. When we make a terrible mistake in our lives or when things just seem to fall apart, we can know that he will use this for our good and in the process will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to bear. He will provide a way out of every trial.
When was the last time you heard of a sheep having anxiety problems? When did one of them stay awake at night because they were worried the wolf would come or there would be no food tomorrow? The sheep trusts the shepherd! We have the great shepherd leading us so why would we worry? There is no room for trust in God and worry in the same life. We are safe in the arms of Jesus.
Thank you Lord for the assurance of your love, your forgiveness and your constant protection over me. Help me never forget that you are always with me and give me faith to trust you in all things. I need your help to overcome the temptations, trials, and problems that arise in my life. I need your wisdom to make the right choices each day. Help me be more determined to know your will and therefore to study and meditate more in your word. Lord, give peace to my brothers and sisters in other parts of the world where they are faced daily with problems and hardships I can only imagine. I pray in the name of Jesus.
