Daily Devotional: Psalms 24:7-10
Ps 24:7-10
7 Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty--he is the King of glory.
1 Peter 2:4-5
4 As you come to him, the living Stone-rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him- 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Who is he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty--he is the King of glory. Jesus is now King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We have been taken from the world of sin and darkness and put into the kingdom of the beloved Son. As the children of the heavenly Father, we are royalty. As we offer our sacrifices of praise, we are his priests in this world.
As we serve our Lord and King we face a spiritual battle each day as we fight temptation and sin. Paul says we are in a spiritual battle but God provides our armor and our weaponry. Even more importantly, he provides us with the strength to overcome the evil one. We are instructed to stand firm in his might and in his power. We are further told to do this with prayer.
In our fast paced world today that is filled with technology and so far removed from the days of Paul’s world, we still have the same need in our lives and our hearts. We are in a battle between God and Satan. We can take the easy way and follow Satan and the world around us or we can stand strong and fight in the army of Jesus. Satan will make his side appear to be winning and he will make it look glamorous. But through the resurrection of Jesus we are assured that God has already won the war. This means that no matter what we face and how dark our days may be, we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ.
O LORD, King of glory, I thank you for your love for me and your provision of life eternal in Jesus Christ. As I consider your majesty and your power, I realize just how frail and weak I really am. I realize that on my own I have no reason to think I can speak to you or even be recognized by you. Yet, because of your love, your mercy and your grace I can come to you in boldness in the name of Jesus your Son and my Redeemer. As you have given him all power and authority, give me a heart of total submission to his will in my life. Give me strength to be more like you and forgive me when I fail. I pray in the name of Jesus, my Lord and King.
