Daily Devotional: Psalms 25:1-7
Ps 25:1-7
1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; 2 in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 3 No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse. 4 Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; 5 guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. 6 Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORD.
2 Tim 1:11-12
11 And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. 12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.
It was said of Jesus that he came not to do his own will but the will of his Father in heaven. Paul said that he no longer lived but Christ lived in him. When we make knowing and living the will of God our top priority, we can say the same about ourselves. But it is so easy for us to want to do the will of God but modify it to fit our lives or change it to align with our desires or leave off part of it because it no longer agrees with our “modern” society. Just as dangerous is to make rules of application and then elevate our rules to equality with the will of God.
Our trust is to be in God. Our trust is in Jesus, his atoning death on the cross and his resurrection from the grave. No matter how much we invest in God and in our heavenly mansion, God is able to guard it with absolute security. There are no thieves who can break into heaven and steal and nothing there will rust.
God has done and will do his part for our eternal salvation. Now it is up to us to commit our lives to him; to serve him with all our heart, soul and mind. We must be faithful as we walk in the light of his word, his will and his ways.
O God, thank you for your continued forgiveness in my life. I know I am far from perfect and so often I fail to be what you want me to be. Give me wisdom to say what needs to be said and to say it in the right way. Also give me wisdom to keep my mouth closed when that is best. Help me remember that my opinion does not matter when it differs from your word. Fix in my mind that Jesus is supreme in all things so my task is to live for you by being like him. Use me to show others his life by my example. Fill me with your joy, your peace and contentment. Give your healing and peace to those who are suffering. I pray in the name of Jesus.
