Daily Devotional: Psalms 28:6-9
Ps 28:6-9
6 Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy. 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. 8 The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. 9 Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.
Eph 3:4-6
4 In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. 6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
We often read of the children of those in the political, business or entertainment world and what is going on in their lives. For many this has been their ticket to the world of fame or fortune. Not because they have accomplished anything themselves but because of who their father or mother happened to be. Some have shown great honor to their parents while others have been a disgrace to them by their behavior.
What a blessing to be the children of God. We are his, not because of what great things we have done. It is because of our faith in Jesus and the great work he has done on our behalf that we can be in his family. While it is true that we have to obey his gospel to become a part of the family of God, there is no merit or works of righteousness in doing so. This obedience along with our continued living for him is a demonstration of our faith. We obey because we trust him.
The wonderful thing about this is that we can always trust God to keep his word and his promises to us. He has given us his Spirit to live in us as a pledge of his promises and assurance of our eternal salvation. What an honor indeed to be a child of God. This is why Jesus said we are to let our lights shine so men will see our good works and glorify our Father who is in heaven.
Thank you God for your wonderful love shown to me in Jesus Christ. Help me have greater faith to always trust you and more self-control to exercise your wisdom to become all you want me to be. Lord God, I am reminded today of those who serve you in places that do not enjoy all of the luxuries that are a part of my everyday life. Please be with them, bless them and give them strength to be faithful to you in the face of adversities. Be with those who have given up so much to go and preach in difficult places. I pray in the name of Jesus.
